Baldwin started in 1871 as Clarksville, a stop on the Western Wisconsin Railroad, and was renamed for D. A. Baldwin, the man behind the line. The Dutch families who settled the farms around it are still the village's story: the windmill in Windmill Park went up in 1987, built by about 30 local volunteers and paid for one foundation stone at a time, and Windmill Days is the village festival.
