The words your customers search
Google's guide to getting found says to think about the words people use to search, and that someone who knows a topic well searches with different words than someone new to it. You might say polyaspartic or full flake. The homeowner might type garage floor coating, epoxy garage floor or concrete floor coating.
Use their words on your listing and your website, beside your own. Google says its language matching can connect a page to searches that don't use its exact words, so write the way you'd explain the job in the driveway. Don't stuff the same phrase in over and over. Google's spam rules name repeating the same words so often that it sounds unnatural.
A business owner who needs a shop or warehouse floor might use other words, like commercial floor coating or warehouse epoxy. If you take that work, say so in those words, in a section of its own.
Your Google Business Profile
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and how well known a business is, and that relevance is how well a Business Profile matches what someone searched for. It asks for complete and detailed business info, and says businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local results.
Google's test for a category is that it finishes the sentence "This business IS a," and its guidelines say to use the fewest categories it takes to describe your core business. Then add each job you take as a service: garage floor coating, epoxy flooring, polyaspartic coating, commercial floor coating. Google says a service may be highlighted on your profile when someone searches for it.
Keep your business name the same as the one on your truck and your invoices. Google's guidelines don't allow extra service words in the name and say they could get the profile suspended. If customers don't come to you, list your towns as service areas. Google allows up to 20, within about 2 hours of driving from where you're based.
Photos of floors you've done
Google's photo tips for a Business Profile say photos help customers quickly understand the type of work you do, and to add at least three that represent the services you offer. They also say a photo should be in focus and well lit, without heavy filters or AI edits, so it shows the job as it is.
For a coating company that's the garage before and after, the finish up close, and the shop floor with the racks back on it. Put the same photos on your website, next to the words that say what the job was and which town it was in. Google's guide says the text near an image helps it understand what the image is about.
Reviews from every finished floor
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking, and that reviews show next to your Business Profile in Maps and Search. It doesn't give a number to aim for. Ask every customer the same way at the end of the job, with the link or QR code Google gives you for reviews.
Answer the reviews you get. Google says a reply shows customers you value their feedback. Its rules don't allow paying for a review, with money or with free or cheaper work, and they call that fake content. The same goes for paying someone to change or take down a bad one.
Ads and paid leads
Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What you can pay for is ads. Local Services Ads are Google's pay-per-lead kind, and Google's list of categories for them includes flooring services. Its sign-up checks whether your business and your area qualify.
Ads and bought leads stop the day the money does. The listing, the photos, the reviews and the website keep working after that, so they come first. If you do run ads, send them to your website, where the photos and the reviews are.
