The problem
Showing up in the towns around Somerset
Say you do garage floors out of Somerset. Someone in Stillwater, 13 miles west over the St. Croix Crossing, searches for garage floor coating and gets a list of names. If your site only talks about Somerset, you're not on it. Google gives Stillwater its own list, and it fills that list with businesses that say they work in Stillwater.
Google gives every town its own list. Someone in Stillwater is looking at that list right now, and if you're not on it they're calling somebody else. Same in every other town you drive to.

Local SEO in Somerset, WI
Local SEO means showing up when someone in one particular town searches for your work. It starts with a page that's about the town.
Somerset was named by General Samuel Harriman for his father's home in Somerset, England, and it grew up on the Apple River. The river is why people know the town. On July 21, 1941, LIFE ran Alfred Eisenstaedt's photographs of about 200 people floating the Apple on inner tubes from David Breault's nightclub outside the village, and the tubing outfitters and campgrounds along the river are still here. During Prohibition the farms around Somerset supplied bootleg liquor to St. Paul and Minneapolis. Somerset Amphitheater, 200 acres next to the St. Croix, has held concerts since Charlie Daniels played it in 1981, and holds 20,000 to 40,000 people depending on the layout.
The village has doubled since 2000: 1,556 people then, 2,635 in 2010, 3,019 in 2020. The St. Croix Crossing opened in August 2017, and Highway 64 runs as a four-lane freeway from the bridge to the edge of Somerset. Almost all of the housing is new: the median home here was built in 2002, more than three quarters of the units have gone up since 1990, about 820 of them, close to 60 percent, since 2000, and only about 70 predate 1940. About 43 percent of the homes are rentals. New subdivisions mean new driveways, garage floors, lawns and fences, on ground that freezes: Wisconsin code puts footings at least 48 inches down.

Questions people in Somerset ask
- Do I need an office in Somerset to show up in Somerset?
- No. Google's business profile lets you list up to 20 service areas, and a page on your site for each town covers the rest. A crew based in New Richmond, Star Prairie or Hudson shows up in Somerset the same way, with a page about Somerset.
- I work both sides of the river. Can one site cover Somerset and Stillwater?
- Yes. Somerset gets its own page, and so does Stillwater, 13 miles over the St. Croix Crossing, and so do Bayport, Oak Park Heights and every other town you work in. One site, one price, both states. Google gives each town its own list, and each page is written for that town.
- I already have a website. Can you make it show up in Somerset?
- We replace it. Your web address stays the same, and the new site goes up in its place with a page for Somerset and one for every other town you work in, New Richmond, Hudson and the Minnesota side included.
- Do you handle my Google Business Profile?
- It stays yours. We line it up with the site, so someone in Somerset who finds you on the map sees the same name, number and towns on your website, and the service areas on the profile match the town pages. When something on it needs changing, we help.
- How long until I show up in Stillwater?
- A new page starts from zero, and it usually takes a few months to build up. Stillwater has more than six times the people Somerset does, so there's more on its list and it can take longer there. We don't promise a spot on Google. We build the page, tell Google about it, and keep it listed.
